Aniebonam tasks Freight Forwarders on Customs Compliance as Comptroller Olomu, Visits NAGAFF Headquarters in Lagos

The Customs Area Comptroller of Apapa Command, Babatunde Olomu, on Tuesday, paid an official visit to the headquarters of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) in Lagos.

Comptroller Olomu, who was accompanied by senior officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), was warmly received by NAGAFF Founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam; National President, Chief Tochukwu Ezisi; the Chairman of the Board of Trustees; and other top executives, both past and present.

Speaking during the visit, Comptroller Olomu described NAGAFF as a critical stakeholder in port operations, noting that the engagement aligns with the Customs Comptroller General Adeniyi’s mandate to promote trade facilitation through collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

He emphasized the need for freight forwarders to make honest declarations, comply with customs regulations, and ensure prompt payment of duties as required by law.

“NAGAFF has consistently championed conversations around the freight forwarding profession in Nigeria. There’s no doubt we are partners in progress, and collaboration is essential for success at our ports,” Olomu stated.

The Apapa Customs boss acknowledged NAGAFF’s role in supporting the Command’s record-breaking performance in revenue generation and trade facilitation, describing their contributions as instrumental to the Command’s success.

In his remarks, NAGAFF Founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, charged freight forwarders to familiarize themselves with customs laws and uphold professionalism and best practices in the industry.

Dr. Aniebonam lauded Comptroller Olomu for his leadership at the Apapa Command, noting significant improvements since he assumed office.

“Since your assumption of office, unprofessional conduct at the port has reduced drastically. We are proud of you and your management team. Apapa Port is now a friendlier port,” Aniebonam declared.

Also speaking, NAGAFF President, Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, assured the visiting Comptroller of the Association’s full support for initiatives that promote ease of doing business and elevate Nigeria’s ports to global standards.

The visit featured the decoration of Comptroller Olomu by NAGAFF executives . The Founder of NAGAFF’ , Top Executives and members of the Association also took turns to take photographs with the Comptroller of Nigeria’s premier port.
