Customs intercepts 16 containers of Ammunition, fake pharmaceutical products, other prohibited items in Lagos

Nigeria customs service has intercepted 16 containers of Arms and Ammunition, Fake pharmaceutical products and other prohibited items in Lagos.

Compttroller General of customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi while addressing journalists on Monday in Lagos atrributed the success to intelligent – led operations and collaboration with other security agencies to enhance National security.

“Initially the items were adjudged clean but secondary checks reveals 202 cans of Canadian Drugs with a total seizure of 101 kg involved .
The CAC was advised to deploy scanners and Arms and Ammunitions discovered inside the containers includes pistols, rifles and other prohibited items. The items has Mr. Babatunde Ogidiolu of an address in Lagos as consignee”

The seizures according to the CGC raises very serious security issues in the country . CG Adeniyi recalled that the need to step up security at the ports informed his decision to declare a state of Emergency in Onne port recently . The safety and security of Apapa ports the CG added is also a Top priority of the Nigeria customs service.

The Duty paid value of all the seizures the CG told journalists is in excess of over ₦10 billion Naira .

” Three of those arrested have been charged to court and remanded in Ikoyi Prison . 2 others are waiting for their days in court”

The Comptroller General of customs expressed the commitment of NCS to step up safety , security at the ports and ensure that Nigeria does not become a dumping ground to criminal elements.
