FOLA TINUBU HINTS  OF PRIMERO ‘S PARTNERSHIP  WITH FG TO BOOST CONVERSION OF 200 BRT BUSES TO CNG AT CONMMEP ROUNDTABLE

The Lagos BRT bus system, Africa’s first was launched in March 2008 as BRT-Lite to provide affordable and reliable transport, beginning with the 22 km Mile 12 to CMS corridor under the initiative of Governor Bola Tinubu and further supported by Governor Babatunde Fashola. The system was inspired by global best practices but adapted for Lagos’s local needs, creating a new model of BRT that has since been expanded and upgraded with new buses and an e-ticketing system, despite challenges like fare hikes .

Transport expert and Chief executive of Primero Transport services, Fola Adeola at a roundtable interactive session entitled ‘Empowering Trade , enhancing Growth organised by the Congress of Nigeria maritime media practitioners ( CONMMEP) in Lagos on Thursday said as part of efforts to reduce the cost of BRT Buses Transportation in Lagos, Primero Transport services Limited is set to partner with the Federal Government by converting 200 BRT Buses to CNG.

He explained that other measures put in place to ensure efficient service by the BRT Operator includes introduction of WiFi on Buses , introduction of Electronic ticketing amongst other strategies.

“We have travelled different countries to understudy Transportation. Primero has about 700 Buses. and it is the face of BRT in Lagos. After the first BRT failed Primero was involved in BRT system in about 435 Buses”—He said

Mr. Tinubu however said for the country to have a world class public transport system subsidy needs to be removed and service paid for.

” A world class transport system is realised when a country’s transport system is not subsidised. We need the political will to remove subsidy from ouTransport system.

According to him Primero commenced the Biggest BRT Transport system in Lagos in the last 10 years with about 435;Buses to manage BRT and modern transportation system in Lagos and Nigeria.

Born and raised in Lagos Mr. Tinubu expressed his commitment to sustain Modern Public transport system in Lagos so asto ensure efficient and affordable transport system for the state.
