NAGAFF’ NAGAFF Founder, Dr. Aniebonam Advocates E-Tags to Streamline Truck Movements at Lagos Ports
By Babatunde Aremu
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Trucks Transit Parks Limited (TTP) are collaborating on a groundbreaking initiative to deploy Electronic Tags (E-Tags) in Lagos ports. This innovative technology aims to revolutionize port operations by streamlining truck movements, alleviating congestion, and enhancing overall efficiency. Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, Founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), is a strong advocate for the adoption of E-Tags, recognizing their potential to transform the maritime sector.
The introduction of E-Tags will enable fleet managers to track vehicles and assets in real-time, providing accurate location data and insights to improve fleet efficiency. With E-Tags, manual errors will be reduced through automated data collection, increasing efficiency and productivity. Additionally, E-Tags will track vehicle performance, condition, and location, while monitoring driver behavior, including speeding, harsh braking, and idling.
The deployment of E-Tags is expected to have a significant impact on port operations. By streamlining truck scheduling, congestion within ports will be reduced, and cargo evacuation will be facilitated, reducing dwell times and increasing productivity. Furthermore, E-Tags will enhance access control and security checks, preventing unauthorized access and improving overall security. The technology will also reduce operational costs by minimizing manual labor and improving resource allocation.
The successful implementation of E-Tags in Lagos ports is expected to set a precedent for other ports in Nigeria, promoting a more efficient and streamlined maritime industry. As Dr. Aniebonam notes, leveraging technology can improve the maritime sector’s overall efficiency, reduce operational costs, and create a seamless experience for stakeholders. As the initiative progresses, it is anticipated that the benefits of E-Tag technology will be fully realized, leading to improved productivity, reduced costs, and enhanced customer satisfaction.
