The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Ikeja of the Nigeria Customs Service has made a significant seizure of smuggled items in Lagos. The intercepted items include ammunition, automatic firearms, short guns, live ammunition, sacks of clothes, and smuggled pharmaceutical products.
Comptroller FOU Zone A Ikeja, Comtroller Mohammed Shuaibu, who represented the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service at a Press briefing on Tuesday said the seizure was made on August 7, 2025, after the unit received an intelligence report.
The patrol team moved to arrest the suspected smugglers, who later abandoned their vehicle to evade arrest.
The Comptroller emphasized that the seizure underscores the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to combat smuggling and protect the country’s borders.
He noted that the unit’s efforts are yielding positive results, and they will continue to work tirelessly to prevent smuggling activities in the country.
One suspect has been arrested in connection with the seized items.
Unbehalf of the Comptroller General of customs, Comptroller Shuaibu handed over the intercepted items to the National centre for the control of large weapons for further investigation and prosecution.
The Comptroller General of customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi urged Nigerians to report suspicious movements of people in their environment .
