The National Co-ordinator of Operation Whirlwind, Deputy Comptroller A.L Aliyu, has announced the interception of four tankers loaded with premium motor spirit (PMS) and the seizure of over 1,630 Jerry cans of petrol worth ₦40.750 million.
Deputy Comptroller Aliyu who made this known on Friday at a Press briefing held in Lagos Said the interception was made across notorious smuggling routes, including Aso-Odo, Seme, Owode-Apa, and Badagry.
The seized fuel tankers, containing over 159,000 litres of fuel, have been handed over to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for sanctions. The 1,630 Jerry-cans of PMS will be auctioned to the general public, ensuring transparency and accountability.
The operation was a result of intelligence-driven efforts, vigilance, and the resolve to safeguard Nigeria’s economic and energy security. The National Co-ordinator emphasized that Operation Whirlwind is against economic sabotage, not legitimate trade, and that strict compliance is non-negotiable for petroleum products.
