Customs Begins Implementation of 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures, Tariff Amendments

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the commencement of the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments as approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to a statement issued and signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada on Wednesday, the amendments are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal and trade policy framework, promoting economic competitiveness, enhancing revenue generation, and aligning the nation’s tariff regime with ECOWAS and international obligations.
The approved changes include:
1. Revised Import Adjustment Tax (IAT) List* and Revised National List for ECOWAS Common External Tariff (2022–2027)
2. Revised Import Prohibition List (Trade)
3. Revised List of Goods Liable to Excise Duty
4. Green Tax Surcharge* on motor vehicles with engine capacities of 2000cc and above
5. Revised Export Prohibition List
The Service directed importers, exporters, manufacturers, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the amended tariff schedules and ensure full compliance.

“The Service Reaffirms commitment to supporting government policies while fulfilling its mandate of trade facilitation, revenue collection, and border security,” the statement added. “Successful implementation requires cooperation from all stakeholders in the trade ecosystem.
