PTML Customs Strengthens Leadership Capacity to Boost Service Delivery

The Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has organised a leadership seminar for senior officers as part of efforts to enhance professionalism, teamwork and effective service delivery.
The seminar, held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Command’s Conference Hall, focused on strengthening the leadership capacity of officers and equipping them with skills needed to effectively discharge the Service’s mandates.
The initiative is in line with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi to build a more efficient, motivated and service-oriented workforce.
Declaring the seminar open, the Acting Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Nura Ibrahim Miko, said effective leadership remained critical to the achievement of the Customs Service’s core responsibilities of revenue generation, trade facilitation and suppression of smuggling.
Miko stressed the importance of creating a work environment that promotes the welfare, health and productivity of officers, noting that the Command was committed to initiatives such as the recently introduced Work-Life Balance Initiative.
Participants, drawn from the ranks of Chief Superintendent of Customs to Deputy Comptroller of Customs, received training on strategic leadership, effective communication, decision-making, conflict management and ethical conduct.
The Acting Area Controller also delivered the first session of the seminar, titled, “Leadership and Followership: Building a Culture of Collaboration and Excellence.”
He commended the participants for their active participation and urged them to apply the knowledge gained to improve service delivery and strengthen the efficiency of the Command.
Miko further reassured stakeholders and members of the trading community of the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and the promotion of an improved business environment.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of Certificates of Excellence to two officers in recognition of their dedication and outstanding performance.
The award recipients were Assistant Comptroller J.O. Ezekuse, Officer-in-Charge of Mile 2 Gate, and Chief Superintendent of Customs C.A. Ibrahim, Officer-in-Charge of the Legal Unit.
Miko urged officers to remain committed to their duties and continue giving their best in service to the nation, stressing that the Command has mechanisms for identifying and rewarding diligence, selflessness and efficient service delivery.
The seminar underscored the PTML Command’s renewed focus on developing effective leadership and a highly motivated workforce capable of delivering quality service to stakeholders while advancing the objectives of the Nigeria Customs Service.
