NPA Facilitates Release of NDPHC Power Equipment Stuck at Ports

The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, has facilitated the recovery and clearance of critical power equipment belonging to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, NDPHC, that had been abandoned and left idle at various Nigerian seaports.
The intervention, according to NDPHC, is expected to accelerate the implementation of critical power projects nationwide while helping the company avert potential losses running into billions of naira.
NDPHC Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the NPA Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, and his management team in Lagos over the weekend.
Adighije commended the NPA for its timely intervention, describing the recovery and clearance as critical to strengthening Nigeria’s power infrastructure and ensuring the effective delivery of ongoing and planned power projects.
She explained that the equipment was required for the execution of critical NDPHC projects, and that prolonged delays could have negatively affected timelines, increased costs, and undermined efforts to improve electricity supply.
According to her, the NPA’s intervention not only facilitated the recovery of the valuable equipment but also saved NDPHC billions of naira in potential losses.
The NDPHC boss called for stronger and sustained collaboration between NDPHC, NPA and other relevant government agencies in the energy and maritime sectors to prevent bureaucratic bottlenecks that could affect service delivery and timely execution of infrastructure projects.
She noted that timely clearance of power-sector equipment is important to ensuring contractors have unhindered access to materials required to execute projects within schedule.
Adighije said the visit was also aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between NDPHC and NPA and deepening collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
She assured NPA management that NDPHC remains committed to further strengthening the relationship in the interest of Nigeria’s power sector and national development.

In his response, Dr. Dantsoho commended NDPHC for the visit and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting initiatives and partnerships that promote national development.
He congratulated NDPHC on its contributions to Nigeria’s power sector, noting that efficient and reliable electricity supply remains critical to economic growth, industrialisation and improved living standards.
Dantsoho assured that NPA remains open to meaningful engagements and will continue to collaborate with government agencies and strategic stakeholders whose activities contribute to the growth of the Nigerian economy.
He further assured that NPA will continue to support initiatives that facilitate the smooth movement and clearance of critical equipment for projects that strengthen infrastructure and advance national development.
