NIMAREX 2026 Shifts Focus to Strategic Partnerships, Blue Economy Competitiveness as Expo Begins November 17

The Nigerian Maritime Expo (NIMAREX) 2026 is set to adopt a new direction, with emphasis on strengthening strategic partnerships and positioning Nigeria’s maritime industry for greater global competitiveness.
The Chairman of the NIMAREX 2026 Planning Committee, Otunba Sola
Adewunmi, disclosed this during an interview, noting that the forthcoming edition would prioritise meaningful industry-wide engagement over the traditional focus on high-profile personalities and award presentations.
Adewunmi, alongside the Planning Committee Consultant, Funmi Folorunsho, explained that while the 2025 edition concentrated on rebuilding confidence in the sustainability of the expo, the 2026 event would consolidate those gains and strengthen the collective voice of the maritime industry.
According to him, the theme, “Strengthening Strategic Partnerships for a Globally Competitive Blue Economy,” reflects the need for greater collaboration among industry stakeholders, particularly at a time when political discussions and preparations for the next government are gaining momentum.
He emphasised that the maritime sector must actively contribute to policy formulation, political manifestoes and government priorities to ensure that its interests and development needs receive adequate attention.
Adewunmi disclosed that the planning committee had commenced consultations with maritime associations, industry stakeholders, the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and other relevant institutions to identify practical strategies for advancing the sector.
He further explained that NIMAREX 2026 would provide an inclusive platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, examine industry challenges and develop common positions on issues affecting the growth and competitiveness of Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Although awards and recognitions may remain part of the programme, he stressed that the major attraction would be substantive discussions, stakeholder participation and the development of actionable strategies for the industry.
The three-day NIMAREX 2026 is scheduled to hold from Tuesday, November 17, to Thursday, November 19, 2026, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event is expected to attract maritime professionals, industry associations, policymakers and other key stakeholders, providing an opportunity to strengthen partnerships and shape discussions on the future of Nigeria’s blue economy.
