The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced a partnership with the Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation to promote the upcoming African International Wrestling Championship.
A statement issued and signed by the Public relations officer, Tincan island command, Oscar ivara said this collaboration aims to foster sports development and youth empowerment in Nigeria, highlighting the country’s growing interest in professional wrestling.
The statement added that the championship is Scheduled to take place on October 18-19, 2025, at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra State.
The championship will feature wrestling legends and emerging talents from Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and several African nations. This international event is expected to bring together top wrestlers, promoting a spirit of sportsmanship and healthy competition.
The partnership between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation has two key objectives to promote sports Development and Enhance wrestling in Nigeria through international collaboration, providing a platform for local wrestlers to gain experience and exposure.
The championship also aims to boost yoitth empowerment and Engage young people in sports, promoting healthy lifestyles and opportunities for growth, while showcasing Nigeria’s rich sporting talent.
This initiative aligns with the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to supporting sports development in the country. In recent years, the Service has demonstrated its support for wrestling, with Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressing his enthusiasm for developing the sport .
Adeniyi, who is also a board member of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, has pledged to continue supporting the federation to achieve its goals.
The partnership is expected to yield positive outcomes for Nigerian wrestling, building on the country’s growing reputation in the sport .
