Former VP , Atiku Abubakar resigns membership of PDP

By Babatunde Aremu

FORMER Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has resigned his membership of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In a letter personally signed by him and released to the media this afternoon, the Adamawa State-born politician expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve two terms as vice president and twice as the party’s presidential candidate.

He however said that as a founding father of the party, it is indeed heartbreaking for him to make the decision.

“However, I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for. It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognising the irreconcilable differences that have emerged”, he stated.
