Freight Forwarders seek improvement on B’ odogwu platform amid Financial Losses

By Babatunde Aremu

The foremost Nigerian freight forwarding Association ( NAGAFF ) has called on the Nigeria customs service to address some of the challenges associated with the recent transition to its new cargo clearance platform,” B” Odogwu.

The National Coordinator , NAGAFF 100% Compliance,Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko,, made this call In a letter dated July 14, 2025, and addressed to the Assistant Comptroller General, Zone A Command, Ikeja, Lagos.

Tanko wants the NCS to address the financial hardship” faced by freight forwarders and importers since the implementation of the new platform, which replaces the NICIS II system.

“The delay in the Nigeria Customs Service new system… is causing huge financial losses from demurrage charges by shipping companies and terminal operators. Banks are also collecting as much as ₦500,000 to link users to the system,” the letter reads.

The freight forwarders pointed out that in obtaining a Form M—required for import transactions—they are unable to access their declarations if their Bill of Lading and PAAR (Pre-Arrival Assessment Report) are registered under the B Odogwu platform.

They want the NCS to make the provisional release accessible, make registration of Customs licenses on the new platform more efficient, with clear guidance from technical support teams or Customs revenue officers.

The NAGAFF Compliance Team wants l NCS system to fix the system within 2 to 3 working days to avoid withdrawal of freight forwarders services at the ports
