Ikorodu Ferry Terminal set to Reopen after 3-month closure
By Babatunde Aremu
The Ikorodu Ferry Terminal in Lagos is set to reopen on January 19, 2026, after a three-month closure due to navigational hazards caused by a severe water hyacinth infestation. The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) announced that the terminal will resume normal operations after successful clearance of the invasive water plants and comprehensive safety assessments.
The closure had earlier led to ferry services being rerouted to alternative terminals, but with the reopening, commuter traffic is expected to ease, and convenience will be restored for thousands of daily passengers who rely on the terminal.
Ferry operators have been directed to resume services in line with their approved schedules and ensure full compliance with safety and operational requirements.
The reopening of the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal is expected to have a positive impact on the transportation needs of the people in the area.
