NAGAFF Calls for Deregistration of four Associations over CRFFN Dispute
*NAGAFF Calls for Deregistration of Four Associations Over CRFFN Dispute*
By Babatunde Aremu
The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has called for the deregistration and withdrawal of licenses of four associations: Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (AREFFN), National Association of Air Freight Forwarders and Consolidators (NAFFAC), and National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA).
According to Chief Ezisi, these associations have continuously undermined the Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) leadership.
The dispute according to the NAGAFF President stems from a court judgment allegedly obtained by Mr. Lucky Amiwero, which claims CRFFN lacks authority to regulate customs agents and collect Practitioners Operating Fees (POF).
NAGAFF’s call for deregistration is based on the associations’ resistance to CRFFN’s establishment and their alleged undermining of its leadership. ANLCA has long resisted CRFFN’s establishment, even proposing a counter bill.
NAGAFF’s move highlights ongoing tensions between the associations and CRFFN.
The CRFFN has emphasized its role in regulating freight forwarding practices in Nigeria and has expressed commitment to capacity building and professional development for freight forwarders. The development raises questions about the future of freight forwarding regulation in Nigeria and the potential impact on industry stakeholders.
