NNPP’ puts off planned protest against INEC  over  possible hijack

By Babatunde Aremu

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has put off its planned protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled for January 20, 2026, due to concerns that it may be hijacked by the Kwankwasiyya Movement led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a statement issued and signed by Founder of the party, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam on Monday The NNPP cited intelligence reports indicating that the Kwankwasiyya Movement plans to use the protest to instigate disobedience to public order.

The party referenced a court judgment that ruled the leadership crisis in NNPP is an internal matter, but noted that the issue at hand is the termination of a memorandum of understanding between NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

“The NNPP has opted to wait for the outcome of a judicial review rather than risk public disorder. They believe that Senator Kwankwaso’s group may have ulterior motives, given his apparent unfriendly stance towards the current administration”-The party said
