The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, has made significant seizures of contraband goods along the Lagos-Abidjan corridor. Between July 1 and July 19, 2025, operatives of the command intercepted and seized five trucks laden with smuggled goods.

The command seized 2,800 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each), with the total Duty Paid Value of the seized goods, including the trucks, amounting to N919,500,626. The seizures were made possible through credible intelligence and coordinated enforcement strategies, demonstrating the command’s commitment to national security and combating smuggling activities.

Central area Comptroller, Seme area command Ben Oramalugo made this known on Thursday in a Press briefing

According to the Comptroller, The Seme Area Command’s efforts have also resulted in significant revenue generation, with over N1.5 billion generated between May and July 2025.

This the CAC pointed out reflects a strong drive to curb revenue leakages and ensure all due funds are remitted to the Federal Government.

Comptroller Ben Oramalugo reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests, promoting lawful trade, and tightening border security. The seizure of foreign parboiled rice is particularly significant, given Nigeria’s leadership in rice production in Africa, with the aim of protecting local industry and bolstering agricultural sustainability.

The command’s anti-smuggling operations have been successful, and its efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to national security and economic protection.
