Tanzania Backs Nigeria’s IMO Council Bid, Explores Nigerian Model for Maritime Growth

The United Republic of Tanzania has endorsed Nigeria’s bid for election into Category C of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council.
A statement issued and signed by Special adviser media and communications to the Honourable minister in Abuja on Wednesday said this diplomatic endorsement was made during a courtesy visit by the Tanzanian High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Selestine Gervas Kakele, to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
Tanzania’s support for Nigeria’s IMO Council bid is driven by strong bilateral relations and Nigeria’s past support.
Both countries have expressed commitment to fostering strategic maritime cooperation, citing shared aspirations for maritime development.
The Tanzanian High Commissioner described both countries as natural partners with shared aspirations for maritime development.
Furthermore, Tanzania is interested in exploring the Nigerian model for maritime sector growth, recognizing Nigeria’s expertise and experience in the field.
This development strengthens the maritime ties between Nigeria and Tanzania, and Nigeria’s bid for the IMO Council could enhance its global maritime influence.
