CG, Adeniyi tasks maritime journalists to Highlight areas for industry improvements at Mediacon Network media capacity centre launch

The Comptroller – General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi has called on Maritime journalists to continue to set Agenda for accelerated growth in the Maritime sector.

The Customs Boss made this call on Wednesday in Lagos at First Mediacon Network Limited launch of a new capacity centre for maritime journalists.

The Customs Boss who was represented by ACG Mohammed Babandede gave his congratulatory message on Wednesday at the 10th anniversary, Annual seminar for maritime journalists to ensure balanced reportage.

” As we continue our Reforms in NCS we count on maritime journalists to Highlight areas where we can do better. Our door remains open for engagement, collaboration and partnership with the media. “– He said

Director Special duties of Nigeria Shippers council who represented the Executive secretary/ CEO , Moses in his keynote address pointed out that The media has contributed to Greater transparency within the maritime industry landscape and ensured competitiveness .

He however said that maritime journalism requires Deeper as well as Digital knowledge to achieve success and Greater achievements.

He enjoined journalists to always cultivate the culture of appreciation, accuracy, balance and integrity which is highly needed for journalism practice.

Speaking on the single window policy of the Federal Government,Former Acting President of Association of Nigeria Licensed customs Agents( ANLCA) Dr. Farinto Collins said the single window will solve a lot of problems especially for customs Brokers.
He expressed optimism that systems will be channelled electronically, trade will be streamlined and that the single window aims to also boost Revenue and allows only single entry point.

Dr. Farinto said other benefits of the single window includes Efficiency and transparency .

National Public relations officer, Nigeria customs service, Dr. Abdullahi Maiwada in his address to the gathering throw light on on the topic of the seminar Data journalism in maritime: :

He said Data is key to Using Analytics to tell Bigger stories. Data according to him is very critical in Both Journalism and public relations . He explained further that Data analytics is broader but Data analysis examines past events to draw conclusions. He identified Data analytics as descriptive, Diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive. Maeaida also explained that Data enables one to analyse situations and helps in Decision making.

Maiwada also urged maritime journalists to embrace Artificial intelligence given the reality that it has come to stay.

Speaking on the Launch of Maritime Media and capacity Development centre, The CEO of First Mediacon Network Limited, Mr. Sesan Onileimo said it is a turning point for an industry Long in need of a structured capacity Building institution. Mr. Onileimo disclosed that the Comptroller General of Customs ,Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, CEO of Nigeria Shippers council and Executive Director, Captain wareddi Enisuoh amongst others constitute the personalities steering the Media and capacity Development centre.

The event featured presentation of awards to the Comptroller General of Customs,Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, CEO of shippers council,Pius Akutah and National public relations officer of Nigeria customs service, Dr. Abdullah Maiwada.
