The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION) has appointed industry veteran Dr. Bashir Ambi-Mohammed as its new Head of Communications and Advertising. This strategic appointment comes at a pivotal time as the institute, established by the Nigerian Navy, accelerates its mission to strengthen capacity, policy formulation, and global advocacy across Nigeria’s expanding blue economy ecosystem.
Dr. Ambi-Mohammed brings an extraordinary, multi-modal track record to the institute following a stellar 26-year career at the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC). During his landmark tenure as the Head of the Complaints Unit, Dr. Ambi successfully saved the national economy ₦4.8 billion naira through robust dispute resolution, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) frameworks, and trade consumer protection efforts.
Alongside these massive financial interventions, he was the pioneer think-tank behind the publication of the NSC Complaints Newsletter, serving with distinction as the Chairman of its Editorial Board to bring transparency to port operations.
Widely celebrated as an incorruptible industry guru, Dr. Ambi is defined by a rare combination of professional humility and unyielding ethical standards. Known to be a lifelong learner who remains completely intolerant of sharp practices passing under his watch, his career has been heavily decorated with prestigious industry honours. These include the NSC ACTU/ICPC Integrity Award, the NSC CEO Award, and the highly revered Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) International President’s Award.
This professional clout is strongly backed by an elite academic foundation. An expert in multi-modal logistics spanning maritime, land, and aviation sectors, he holds an M.Sc. in International Transport from Cardiff Business School, UK, culminating in a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Lead City University. Given his staunch knowledge of corporate communications and media technology, relevant maritime stakeholders can confidently expect transformative developments.
Dr. Ambi-Mohammed’s unique blend of hands-on transport administration and expert public relations is poised to foster unprecedented cross-sector collaboration and elevate the global profile of IMION’s executive programs.
