NAGAFF Raises concerns over proposed Single Window Implementation
By Babatunde Aremu
The Trade War Committee of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has expressed concerns over the impending launch of the National Single Window (NSW) model, citing potential duplication of digital platforms, institutional resistance, and weak integration of regulatory agencies.
In a statement signed by Dr. Increase Uche, Chairman of the Trade War Committee, NAGAFF highlighted that the Nigeria Customs Service’s expansion of its B’Odogwu Customs Clearance System and creation of a separate web application for licences and permits may create duplication and inconsistencies.
“A Single Window should ideally mean one platform for all trade documentation to enhance clarity, honour and integrity,” the statement read.
The committee also expressed concerns over the possible institutional resistance from the Nigeria Customs Service, which may hinder the effective implementation of the Single Window system.
Furthermore, NAGAFF noted that the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) is not fully integrated into the system, and the NSW has not taken into account the collection of CRFFN’s Processing and Other Fees (POF).
NAGAFF is calling for urgent harmonization of processes and procedures, education, and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition. The association emphasized that the success of the Single Window model is crucial to Nigeria’s trade facilitation and the President’s agenda for a renewed hope and greatness.
