The Comptroller of Customs in charge of Tincan island ports command, Anani has reaffirmed his command’s commitment to full compliance with extant Customs laws, declaring that there will be no compromise on regulations guiding trade and port operations.
Addressing stakeholders, Comptroller Anani stressed that enforcement will be strict and consistent across all terminals and checkpoints. He cautioned importers, exporters, clearing agents and other operators against violations, noting that defaulters will face the full weight of the law.
“Compliance with Customs extant laws is not negotiable. We will apply the rules without exception. Any operator who chooses to flout regulations should be prepared for dire consequences,” Anani stated.
He added that the command will intensify monitoring and surveillance to check infractions such as under-valuation, false declaration, and smuggling. According to him, the measures are aimed at protecting government revenue and ensuring a level playing field for compliant traders.
Anani urged stakeholders to embrace transparency and operate within the law to avoid sanctions, penalties, or loss of cargo.
The warning comes as the Nigeria Customs Service continues its drive to block revenue leakages and improve trade facilitation at the nation’s ports.
