Nigerian Shippers Council Suspends Tariff Hike Amid Regulatory Review

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has directed shipping lines and their agencies to immediately suspend the implementation of recently approved tariffs.
The directive follows concerns over the timing, structure, and potential impact of the tariffs on port users and the logistics value chain.
In a statement, the NSC cited ongoing stakeholder engagements and regulatory review as reasons for the directive, emphasizing its commitment to fair competition, transparency, and sectoral stability.
Affected operators are mandated to revert to the previous tariff regime, with any deviation attracting sanctions.
“The NSC will communicate a definitive position upon conclusion of consultations and review. The move underscores the NSC’s commitment to effective economic regulation, cargo interests, and an efficient maritime transport system”- The statement said
