NIMASA TAKES STOWAWAY PREVENTION CAMPAIGN TO GRASSROOTS COMMUNITIES IN LAGOS

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, has taken its campaign against stowaways to grassroots communities as part of efforts to enhance maritime security and protect Nigeria’s image.
A statement issued and signed on Monday by Deputy Director, Public relations of the Agency, Osagie Edwards said the Agency engaged community leaders, youths, and residents at Snake Island , Lagos on the dangers, legal consequences, and global implications of stowing away on vessels.
The statement added that the Community members lauded NIMASA for the initiative, describing the sensitization as timely and impactful.
Speaking during the engagement, the Head of ISPS, Mr. Mudi Isa, stated that stowaway incidents negatively affect Nigeria’s standing in the global maritime community. He reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to preventive awareness and sustained collaboration with coastal communities to curb the menace.
