The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says Barr. Ladipo Johnson never resigned from the party because he was never a bonafide member to begin with.

The NNPP National Secretary, Comrade Ogini Olaposi Dismissed the announcement on Friday in a Press Statement calling it National Theatre.

Johnson, who styled himself as NNPP’s publicity secretary for the Kwankwaso faction, announced his resignation on Thursday, 4 May 2026, in a letter to NNPP Ward G1 (Shitta/Ogunlana Ward), Surulere LGA, Lagos. He cited

“broader national realignment of the opposition” as his reason.

Olaposi said Johnson was a spokesperson for the Kwankwaso-led Kwankwasiya Movement, not the NNPP. He noted that Kwankwaso and Buba Galadima had already declared membership of other parties, yet some of their followers continued to use the NNPP name to issue statements backing Kwankwaso’s new political platforms.

According to Olaposi, Johnson was among those expelled for anti-party activities. He said the expulsion of Kwankwasiya Movement members and their leader was upheld by both the Owerri Court of Appeal and the FCT High Court. “It therefore stands to reason that they have no party and so, did not resign from the NNPP,” he stated.

The NNPP accused INEC of knowing about these defections but refusing to upload the authentic Major-led NWC leadership to its website, despite court orders. Olaposi cited an FCT High Court order restraining INEC from dealing with the Kwankwaso group, and said the Owerri Appeal Court gave INEC 72 hours to update its records — a directive he said remained uncomplied with 30 days later.

Olaposi referenced a recent media statement by Johnson claiming NNPP would hold primaries before May ended, calling it misleading since Johnson had already moved to join Kwankwaso.
