The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to fully comply with a Federal High Court order by uploading its entire National Working Committee before July 15, 2026, warning that anything short of that will attract fresh legal action.
The Founder of NNPP, Dr Boniface Aniebonam who made the call on Friday in Lagos said INEC had only made “partial compliance” by uploading Dr. Agbo Major, as National Chairman, and by granting the party access to upload candidates.
He said the court had mandated INEC to upload the party within 72 hours and provide evidence of compliance, and had again warned that full compliance must be done before the next adjourned date of July 15.
“Partial compliance in law is non-compliance,” he said. “An order of the court is sacrosanct. It is not about confidence, it is about the rule of law. There is no appeal pending and there is no self-execution. INEC cannot continue to delay.”
Dr Aniebonam lamented that the delay could affect the party’s preparations for off-season elections, particularly the Osun State poll, adding that the NNPP would approach the Federal High Court for interpretation if it suffers an injury it cannot contain.
The NNPP Founder who is also the Founder of NAGAFF and Chairman Board Of Trustee(BOT) of the Party accused INEC of acting beyond its mandate by inviting the party and the Kwankwaso group to its headquarters after a court order had been made, describing it as “contemptuous.”
On the internal crisis within the Party, the BOT Chairman felt pained by the actions of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whom he described as his younger brother
He recalled that Kwankwaso was given the NNPP platform to contest the 2023 presidential election alongside President Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, but later expelled him from the party.
“NNPP should have been the bride of democracy ahead of 2027. You were given a platform on a platter of gold. To pay me back with expulsion is not proper,” he said. He said Kwankwaso’s movement from ADC to NDC and now PRP showed a lack of decorum, but insisted his duty was to protect him because “he is 69, I am 73.”
On the impact of the crisis on party members, Dr Aniebonam said NNPP members were determined though angry over the behaviour of Senator Kwankwaso, but however remained on course because the court had spoken.
He added that there was hope in the Nigerian judiciary for the common man, and that while INEC might have faults because it is human, it must uphold the law.
INEC was yet to respond to the allegations as of press time.
