The Network of Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NNMJ), the umbrella body of maritime journalists in Nigeria, has announced plans to host its Unity Conference on Friday, November 13, 2026, at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

The conference, scheduled to commence at 11:00 a.m., is expected to attract policymakers, maritime regulators, industry leaders, journalists and other stakeholders to deliberate on the future of Nigeria’s maritime sector.

According to a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of NNMJ, Elder Dele Aderibigbe, and its Public Relations Officer, Jerry Aguigbo, the conference will examine the performance, policy direction and operational efficiency of the maritime industry under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The discussions will focus on critical issues, including port modernisation, trade facilitation, revenue generation and the need to strengthen the competitiveness of Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Barrister Temisan Omatseye, will chair the conference, while the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour.
Renowned maritime lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Barrister Emeka Akabogu, will deliver the keynote address.

The conference is themed “Seaport Modernisation, Trade Facilitation and Revenue.”

The event is expected to provide an important platform for constructive engagement on ongoing port reforms, operational efficiency among Customs and other port agencies, improved trade facilitation and measures to position Nigerian ports as competitive destinations for international trade.

It will also provide an opportunity for industry stakeholders to examine strategies for maximising the economic opportunities within Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy sectors.

The NNMJ Unity Conference is expected to strengthen collaboration among maritime journalists, government institutions, regulators and private-sector operators towards achieving a more efficient, transparent and competitive maritime industry.
