The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi II, has cited President Bola Tinubu’s public commendation of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, as proof of confidence in his leadership. The monarch said CGC Adeniyi’s stewardship of the Nigeria Customs Service [NCS] and impact on community development are sources of pride to the ancient Ife Kingdom and Modakeke community.

Oba Ogunwusi stated this on Thursday, 28 May 2026, during the annual Eid-el-Kabir gathering hosted by the CGC at his residence in Modakeke, Osun State. The event drew traditional rulers, political leaders, senior Customs officers, community stakeholders, family members, friends, and associates.

The Ooni said President Tinubu’s expression of satisfaction with Adeniyi’s performance reflected trust in his capacity and the results being delivered by the Service.

“We are very proud of him and the work he is doing. When Mr. President publicly expressed satisfaction with his performance, it was not a casual statement. It reflects trust in his capacity and the results he is delivering. What he is doing in the Customs Service and in the community shows that he is a unifier,” the monarch said.

Reaffirming the Ife Kingdom’s support, Oba Ogunwusi added: “He brings people together, and that is what leadership is about. We will continue to stand by him and pray for him.

Addressing guests, CGC Adeniyi expressed appreciation to the Ooni, community leaders, family, friends, associates, and well-wishers for their continued support.

He described Eid-el-Kabir as a season that reminds humanity of sacrifice, gratitude, obedience, and service to others. He noted that beyond celebration, the gathering provides an opportunity to reconnect, strengthen relationships, and reflect on the collective responsibility of building stronger communities and a better nation.

The CGC said the NCS has recorded significant progress in revenue generation, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, technological innovation, and corporate social responsibility in line with Federal Government economic objectives.

He added that the Service remains focused on supporting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through reforms aimed at facilitating legitimate trade, enhancing national security, improving compliance, and creating opportunities for economic growth.

Adeniyi noted that Customs continues to invest in community-focused interventions, including educational support, healthcare initiatives, and other projects designed to improve the lives of Nigerians.

He pledged that the Service will sustain reforms to strengthen operations and deliver greater value to the nation, while assuring stakeholders of Customs’ commitment to professionalism, transparency, and service excellence.

The CGC also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, and assured Nigerians of the Service’s continued support for government policies geared toward economic prosperity and national development.
