PTML Customs Begins Sensitisation on Electronic Cargo Tracking System as Second Pilot Command

The Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has commenced sensitisation of officers and stakeholders ahead of the deployment of the Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS).
The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, disclosed this during a workshop held at the PTML Conference Hall on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
DC Miko said PTML was selected as the second pilot command for the nationwide rollout of ECTS after the successful implementation at Apapa Area Command. He noted that the choice reflects PTML’s strategic role in national revenue generation and trade facilitation.
According to him, the deployment aligns with the reform and modernisation agenda of the CGC, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, aimed at building a technology-driven and transparent 21st Century Customs Service.
For years, cargo moving under transire to bonded terminals, between commands, or to Free Trade Zones relied on physical escort by officers. Miko said rising trade volumes have made that model unsustainable, causing delays and manpower strain.
He listed the benefits of ECTS to include real-time GPS monitoring from point of departure to destination, instant alerts for route deviation or seal tampering, optimisation of manpower, and enhanced revenue assurance through accurate cargo data.
Stakeholders will also benefit from faster clearance, reduced demurrage, lower cost of doing business, and greater transparency as consignments remain tracked under customs control.
“This workshop is therefore convened to engage our stakeholders on the procedures, responsibilities, and expectations under the Electronic Cargo Tracking System regime,” Miko said. “I urge all participants to embrace this change and work with us to ensure a seamless takeoff.”
Participants included Customs officers, licensed agents, freight forwarders, terminal operators and other private sector stakeholders.
The CGC and NCS Management were commended for their commitment to the digitalisation of Customs processes.
